The Patriot Act was signed by former president George W. Bush on October 26,2001. The Act was designed to fight terrorism, however fights something more important. human rights are being violated because of this act.
An unknown author states "PATRIOT gives sweeping search and surveillance to domestic law enforcement and foreign intelligence agencies and eliminates checks and balances that previously gave courts the opportunity to ensure that those powers were not abused. PATRIOT and follow-up legislation now in development threaten the basic rights of millions of Americans".
These rules have captured terrorist in America before they could strike. A grand total of 42 terror attacks have been stopped since this act was put in to place. Some people think that the act is doing a good job, however the act interferes with our rights and needs to be changed. Before the act was signed, the government could still wire tap and search personal records, but only for suspected drug dealers. The act however did add some things that the government could do that they couldnt do to drug dealers.
